Description
BG96 module and board selection
Quectel BG96 supports LTE Cat M1 (LTE-M), Cat NB1 (NB-IoT) and EGPRS. Select the complete part number and hardware form before using a specification or placing an order.
What the product photographs show
The main photograph and gallery show a BG96 module mounted on a Mini PCIe board, not a bare LGA component. The module label reads BG96MA-128-SGN; the reverse-side board label reads BG96MA-MINIPCIE-S. The board includes a SIM holder and connectors marked MAIN and GNSS. Confirm the supplied board revision, module configuration and included accessories with your quotation.
Compare the BG96 Mini PCIe page. The separate BG95/BG96 dongle page describes a USB assembly; its pictured BG95-M3 is not evidence of a BG96 configuration.
Separate the hardware forms
| BG96 bare module | LGA component for PCB integration: 26.5 x 22.5 x 2.3 mm; 3.3-4.3 V, typical 3.8 V. Sources: BG96 specification V1.9 and Hardware Design V1.6. |
|---|---|
| BG96 Mini PCIe | Separate card form factor. Quectel lists 51.0 x 30.0 x 4.9 mm and an extended temperature range of -40 to +80 C on its Mini PCIe product page. Obtain the matching card hardware design before connecting power. |
| Board or dongle assembly | The bare-module voltage and dimensions do not define a board input or accessory package. Confirm the host connector, SIM arrangement, external power input and supplied items. |
BG96 bare-module reference
The following is a module-level reference, not a measured specification of the pictured board. Sources: Quectel BG96 specification V1.9, page 2, and Hardware Design V1.6 (2023-02-21), printed pages 12-15.
| Technology | LTE Cat M1 / Cat NB1 / EGPRS; 3GPP Release 13. |
|---|---|
| LTE HD-FDD bands | B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B8/B12/B13/B18/B19/B20/B28, with additional B25/B26 subject to hardware and mode restrictions below. These sources do not list B66. |
| Hardware-dependent bands | Hardware Design V1.6 states B25 on R1.2 hardware and B26 on R1.1 hardware for Cat M1 only. Specification V1.9 still marks B26 as under development. Verify the exact hardware and firmware; do not treat B26 as unconditional NB-IoT support. |
| EGPRS bands | GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz; local network availability and service support must be checked. |
| Theoretical rates | Cat M1: up to 375 kbps downlink and uplink. Cat NB1: up to 32 kbps downlink / 70 kbps uplink. |
| Module temperature | Operating: -35 to +75 C; extended: -40 to +85 C, subject to the hardware design conditions. Card temperature limits are separate. |
| Interfaces and antennas | USB 2.0, UART, (U)SIM and other signals are described in the module hardware design. Main and optional GNSS antenna interfaces; do not describe the GNSS port as a cellular diversity antenna. |
| Optional functions | Confirm GNSS, voice, firmware features, drivers and network support for the ordered configuration. |
Technical documents and compliance
- BG96 bare-module specification V1.9 – published reference; confirm the applicable revision for your part.
- BG96 Hardware Design V1.6 – bare-module integration and revision conditions.
- Quectel BG96 Mini PCIe information – separate card documentation.
Regulatory and operator documents should be matched to the complete part number, hardware/firmware revision, hardware form and destination market. Markings in a photograph and approval lists in a family specification do not establish certification of the supplied board or completed host.
Request the required configuration
Send the full module or board part number, quantity, destination country/operator, host interface and optional features with your BOM. Confirm whether the quotation includes a bare module, Mini PCIe card, dongle, antennas or other accessories. Browse our Datasheet Center for document selection.
